Grahas

Traditional celestial vocabulary is broader than the modern category “planet”.

A category with a context

In traditional Jyotiṣa, graha terminology includes the Sun and Moon as well as the visible planets and lunar nodes. It therefore cannot be translated into the modern astronomical category “planet” without qualification. A reader should distinguish the body or calculated point from the interpretations attached to it.

Position before interpretation

An ephemeris records celestial positions under stated conventions. The Rashtriya Panchang is a modern institutional source for such calendrical data. When comparing it with a classical account, record the reference system and the date rather than treating every number as directly interchangeable.

Read the table’s legend

A useful first exercise identifies the column headings, units and time convention in an astronomical table. That is different from reading a predictive rule in a traditional manual. The site provides no personal graha analysis and makes no claim to infer health, character or future events from a stored position.
