Bhāvas
Houses within a horoscopic framework, distinct from rāśis.
Introductory source-based synthesis. External references were consulted for the stated scope; specialist peer review is not claimed.
A position within a chart
Traditional horoscopic Jyotiṣa discusses twelve bhāvas, or houses. The VMOU course introduces the terminology within its chart-study unit. The word “house” names a chart framework, not an astronomical body.
Do not substitute one category for another
A bhāva and a rāśi are not simply two words for the same thing. To interpret a diagram, a reader needs to know how its author assigns houses, what marks the ascendant and which convention is being followed. A diagram without those details is insufficient for a reliable calculation.
An introductory reading task
Before studying predictive meanings, identify the chart’s orientation and its legend. Separate a mathematical placement from a traditional rule and from an individual interpretation. This website currently provides an educational schematic only. It does not calculate ascendants, determine house cusps or issue personal readings. Source-specific studies of different systems will need their own methodological documentation and validation.
